Uganda’s top tennis player Duncan Mugabe stormed the finals of the annual Governor’s Cup tennis championships at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos on Friday after beating his Nigerian opponent Monday Igbinovia in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Mugabe, is using tournament as a build-up to next year’s All Africa games in Brazzaville, Congo, where he will be vying to go one better after winning a bronze medal in the last edition that was held in Maputo, Mozambique in 2010 and also the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in Brazil.

He will meet Mose Michael of Nigeria in today’s final as he seeks a second title after winning the men’s doubles with Zimbabwean counter-part Takanyi Garanganga, after Nigerian Clifford Enosoregbe and Daouda Ndiaye of Senegal withdrew with injuries.

Mugabe will now continue playing several tournaments around the world as it is part of the International Olympic Committee Solidarity grant that was given to him by the Uganda Olympic Committee which he is using as a build-up to his quest of winning a medal at the next Olympics.
