The local T20 League will have a new champion after the defending champion Wanderers were knocked out by the youthful Abojjo.

Wanderers only sneaked into the quarterfinals via the boardroom, but they couldn’t get past a resilient and youthful Aboojo side.

Wanderers batted first and looked for a big total at 104/5 in 15 Overs, but a mini collapse due to some needless running between wickets saw them leap to just 133/9 in their 20 overs. They failed to capitalise on a strong middle session led by Joseph Byaruhanga (27) to post a bigger total, given that they had picked a batting-heavy line-up.

Aboojo got out of the blocks quickly and despite losing four wickets, they were favourites in the chase with national team players Joseph Baguma (39) and Pascal Murungi (44 not out) taking care of the result inside 14 overs.

Aboojo will take on GM Sugar in the semifinals.

In the morning game, GM Sugar defeated last year’s finalists, Rounders, in a short game. GM Sugar won the toss and decided to bowl first but on a damp wicket, Rounders struggled to hit out and only managed to pile on 84/4 in their 13 overs.

GM Sugar, the champions of the second division, had no trouble chasing it down and remain on course to pick up a season double.

In Entebbe, Division 1 runners-up Ceylon Lions failed to get past Avengers to set up a semifinal clash with Ismail Community, who surprised the Division 1 champions Kutchi Tigers.
