Nigeria and DR Congo stayed on the road to qualification to the 2026 World Cup after beating Gabon and Cameroon respectively in the African play off semi-final.

The Super Eagles saw off the Panthers 4-1 at the Prince Moulay Hassan stadium in the first game after the extra time.

Akor Adams put the Nigerians in front in the 78th minute but Mario Lemina equalised in the 89th minute to take them to extra time.

Seven minutes into the extra time, Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead before a brace from star man Victor Osimhen who had missed a good chance to win in the last minute of normal time sealed the deserved victory.

They will now face off with DR Congo who beat Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions 1-0 with Chancel Mbemba getting the winner in the first of four additional minutes.

The DR Congo captain slotted home the decisive goal that took the team closer to reaching their first ever world cup since 1974.

The winners of the continental play-off final slated for Sunday will progress to a six-team intercontinental qualifier, which will be held in March and will determine the final two nations at next year’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
