The curtains of the 9th Edition of the East African University games will be majestically brought down on Sunday with thrilling finales in many of the ball games.

Following a week long action in 18 sporting disciplines involving over 40 universities, some  games concluded as early as the second day.

Hockey, Swimming, Rugby, Table Tennis, Women’s Football, Athletics, Karate, Taekwondo, Woodball,Badminton, Darts all successfully concluded.

There are epic clashes expected in the men’s football final match as former Asante Kotoko winger, Joseph Ochaya leads Kyambogo University against David Ndihabwe and Micheal Birungi’s Makerere University.

The men’s volleyball final will be played between KIU and Nkumba, with Nkumba returning in action against Kenya’s St Paul. St Paul University edged Ndejje 3-2 in the semi finals.

Hosts UCU have two teams in the finals of the basketball event; they play KIU in the men’s catergory and face Kenyan opposition, Strathmore in the women’s event.

Handball women final is between Nkumba and Mountain Kenya University while favorites, Ndejje University play a very physical Technical University of Kenya side.

As of the close of the 4th day, Ndejje University were leading the final medal tally with a massive 30 total medals that include 12 gold medals.

UCU, KIU and Kenyatta follow closely in the medal standings. A colourful award giving ceremony and closure of the biannual games awaits the over 5000 participants.
