The Kampala Old Boys continued their great run of games, thrashing the Impis, 34-24, at Makerere on Saturday.
The KOBs instantly hit the ground running in the early minutes of the game, scoring a quick try through Jaffar Abdallah.
The Impis defence couldn’t figure out how to stop KOBs’ expansive attack, resulting in an Andrew Odhiambo try. Moving the ball from touchline to touchline by the KOBs created overlaps on the outside, but these opportunities often went begging.
The Impis then cut the margin through Darren Aine’s penalty, but it wasn’t enough to stop the KOBs’ onslaught. The gap once again opened up on the wing, and thanks to Joseph Aredo’s cheeky grabber kick, Mark William Lukwago registered his first try in KOBs shirt.
Captain Clarence Muhumuza then stepped up and scored Impis’ first try, his first of two in the game. However, things only got worse for the Makerere side as blindside flanker Matthew Nuwanya was substituted off for a head injury assessment. This setback, coupled with Ian Munyani menacing regathering KOBs’ kick off, made for a first half full of lessons for the University boys.
The Impis were trailing by 10 points at the halftime break, and both sides only managed a single converted try in the second half to see off the game at 34-24 for the visitors.
Key lessons for coach Alvin Nkamba and his troops include working on their set-piece and defence.
