Heathens remained composed to defeat the Jinja Hippos 41-19 after the home team went ahead soon after kick off.
The Hippos were first on the scoreboard with an unconverted try, but thanks to Aaron Ofoyrwoth’s playmaking prowess, Heathens responded with a penalty try after a high tackle on Julius Oyuk, who was destined for the try line.
The home team once again regained the lead but was unable to convert, leaving the score at 10-7.
Heathens were once again on the offensive, this time Alphonse Openy scoring in the corner. At that point, the game started running away from the Hippos, who had started so well but couldn’t maintain the momentum for the rest of the half.
Hooker Herbert Chanpara then went over the white wash after a well-crafted maul from the Heathens, exhibiting diversity in their attacks. This time, former Hippos center Emma Odoi made no mistake from the tee to extend the lead to 19-10 at the break.

Despite Hippos keeping players like Moses Mununuzi and Andrew Okello, the scrum last Saturday simply couldn’t replicate what the Hippos scrum from last year did to the Heathens when they visited Jinja. Nonetheless, the Hippos still showed that fighting spirit and came close to a comeback through an Ayman Bagalana try, but all hell broke loose thereafter.
Substitute scrumhalf Marvin Asaba took advantage of a strong Heathens scrum to dot over from the base of the scrum. After another dominant scrum from the Heathens, Ofoyrwoth once again showed his class and scored under the poles. Odoi’s conversion brought the score to 34 for the visitors and 17 for the hosts.
Another converted try from Ofoyrwoth sealed the victory for the Yello Machine, who still sit 4th on the championship table, with games against Walukuba Barbarians and Mongers yet to come in the regular season.
