The 2026 Uganda Handball Super League is reaching a defining stage, with every match carrying greater significance as clubs battle for championships, top-four finishes and survival.

After 12 match days, clear title contenders have emerged in both the men’s and women’s competitions, while several clubs continue to fight for momentum in what promises to be a thrilling finish to the season.

Men’s Super League

UPDF Handball Club have established themselves as the team everyone must overcome if they are to lift this year’s championship.

The military side boasts a flawless record of six wins from six matches, collecting a maximum 12 points while producing an astonishing goal difference of +105. Their dominance has been built on a devastating attack that averages more than 35 goals per game and a disciplined defence that has conceded fewer than 18 goals per match.

Their balance between attacking flair and defensive solidity has made them the league’s most complete team, and if they maintain this consistency, they will be strong favourites to reclaim the title.

While UPDF lead the standings, Police Handball Club and Prisons Handball Club remain firmly in contention. Both sides have won all five of their matches and sit on 10 points, keeping the pressure on the leaders.

Police possess one of the league’s most exciting attacking units, capable of overwhelming opponents with pace and intensity. However, improving their defensive organisation could prove crucial as the competition intensifies.

Prisons, on the other hand, have relied on defensive discipline, conceding only 87 goals so far. Their structured approach and ability to control games make them one of the most dangerous teams in the championship race.

The race for the top four remains highly competitive, with Kampala University, Evergreen Handball Club and Uzalendo Handball Club separated by fine margins. Kampala University perfectly embodies the phrase “attack is the best form of defence”, except their defence has often struggled to match their offensive firepower. Having scored 269 goals and conceded exactly 269, they have become one of the league’s most entertaining sides, capable of producing high-scoring encounters every weekend.

Evergreen and Uzalendo have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season and remain capable of climbing the table if they can find greater consistency during the closing fixtures.

Ndejje University continue to compete strongly but need improved efficiency in front of goal, while Makerere University have entertained fans with open, attacking handball despite their defensive vulnerabilities.

For Wananchi Handball Club and Kawanda SS Handball Club, the remaining fixtures represent an opportunity to rescue difficult campaigns.

Kawanda have demonstrated impressive attacking ability, scoring 212 goals, but their defensive struggles remain evident, having conceded a league-high 315 goals. Tightening up at the back will be essential if they hope to climb the standings and finish the season positively.

With UPDF, Police and Prisons all still unbeaten, the championship race is far from settled. The battle for the top four is equally intense, and with every point becoming increasingly valuable, consistency and defensive discipline could ultimately determine who lifts the trophy.

Fans can expect closely contested matches, dramatic finishes and an exciting conclusion to one of the league’s most competitive seasons.

Women’s Super League

Prisons Handball Club have established themselves as the pacesetters in the women’s competition, maintaining a perfect record of seven victories from seven matches.

Their impressive tally of 327 goals scored and only 185 conceded gives them a commanding goal difference of +142, highlighting their dominance on both ends of the court. Their ability to combine attacking efficiency with defensive organization has made them the team to beat as the league enters its decisive phase.

If statistics are anything to go by, Police may well be the most complete side in the competition. They remain unbeaten with six wins from six matches and possess the league’s best goal difference of +201 after scoring 307 goals while conceding just 106—the fewest by any team this season. With a game in hand over the leaders, Police HC are perfectly positioned to launch a serious title challenge and could potentially take control of the championship race.

UPDF Handball Club occupy third place with 10 points from eight matches. Although they have suffered three defeats, their five victories keep them firmly in contention for a podium finish.

Kawanda SS Handball Club are level on points with UPDF despite having played one game fewer, giving them an excellent opportunity to strengthen their position in the coming weeks. Their record of five wins and two losses demonstrates they have the quality to challenge the league’s leading sides.

Kyengeza Handball Club and Makerere University Handball Club are tied on eight points and remain firmly in contention for a top-four finish.

While both teams have shown moments of quality, Makerere’s inconsistent performances and negative goal difference could become costly as the competition intensifies.

Mbogo High School Handball Club and Mak Queens Handball Club occupy the congested middle section of the standings, where a single victory could significantly alter their positions. Nkajja Handball Club remain an intriguing side with games in hand that could propel them into the upper half of the table.

At the bottom, Ndejje University HC, Wananchi HC and Soroti Natives HC face an uphill task and urgently require positive results to move away from the relegation zone.

The Final Stretch

The battle between Prisons HC and Police HC promises to be one of the defining storylines of the season. While Prisons currently lead the standings with a perfect record, Police HC’s superior goal difference and game in hand make them genuine championship contenders.

Meanwhile, UPDF HC, Kawanda SS HC, Kyengeza HC and Makerere University HC will continue battling for top-four honours, while the clubs in the lower half fight for valuable points to improve their standing.

With several teams still holding games in hand, the table remains fluid, and the coming match days could dramatically reshape the title race, the battle for continental positions and the fight to avoid finishing at the bottom.

The stage is set for an exciting finish to the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League, where every goal, every save and every point could prove decisive.
