Great Lakes Men’s T20 | Matchday 5 Results
- Morning: Mburo Blasters 197 all out beat Bunyonyi Warriors 177/7 by 20 runs
- Afternoon: Kyoga Avengers 181/6 beat Victoria Strikers 147/8 by 34 runs
Kyoga Avengers kept their unbeaten record intact with another strong performance against bottom-of-the-table Victoria Strikers.
Victoria Strikers were unable to follow up their first win of the tournament yesterday with another win.
Gerald Olipa (54) and Cyrus Kakuru (50) scored half-centuries for Kyoga Avengers with the former hitting six maximums in the total haul of 181/6. Captain Juma Miyaji provided some late-order hitting that ensured that they had something to bowl at on a flat deck.
In response, only Robert Ajune (44) offered some resistance and only some low-order hitting from Jonathan Kiiza (29) and Theo Hakuziyaremye (25) delayed the win for the Kyoga Avengers.
The defeat keeps Victoria Strikers at the bottom of the table.
In the morning encounter, the highest-scoring teams of the tournament faced off, with Mburo Blasters coming out on top.
Mburo Blasters got big contributions from their prolific top three, all getting starts, but none converted, and a middle-order collapse left them in chaos at 138/6 inside 12 overs.
However, David Wabwire (39) and Yashi Joshi (29) put on a 50-run partnership which pushed the score to 197.
In reply, Robinson Obuya (64) and Anas Baig (62) tore into the Mburo Blasters bowling line-up and put on an opening stand of 105 inside 9 overs before the latter departed.
However, the departure of Anas was the sliding door moment for Mburo Blasters, who were able to regroup and slow down the run chase.
The slow bowling options for Mburo Blasters nicked the game for them as they combined to pick up five wickets for just 53 runs. Mburo Blasters maintained second spot in the tournament while Bunyonyi Warriors remain in third place with just one win.
On Match Day 6, Victoria Strikers take on Mburo Blasters in the morning while Bunyonyi Warriors and Kyoga Avengers face off in the afternoon.
