Ecuador rallied from a goal down to beat Germany 2-1 during a Group E fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Leroy Sane got the opener as early as the second minute to give Germany the lead.
Nilson Angulo equalised for Ecuador in the 9th minute, and the winning goal from Gonzalo Plata came with 13 minutes to play.
Angulo was named the man of the match.
Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire beat Curacao 2-0 at the Philadelphia Stadium. A goal in each half from Nicolas Pepe gave Cote d’Ivoire the maximum points.
The Villareal forward scored the opener in the 7th minute and completed the brace in the 64th minute.
Despite the loss, Germany topped the group with a better goal difference over Cote d’Ivoire (both on six points apiece).
Ecuador qualifies with four points as one of the eight countries that will finish in third place.
Curacao, playing in their debut season at the FIFA World Cup, are eliminated.
