There were wild celebrations at the end of Cabo Verde’s goalless draw with Saudi Arabia in Houston.
The debutants had qualified for the Round of 32, in second place, even without winning a single game.
Once again, Cabo Verde goalkeeper Josimar Jose Evora Dias Vozinha was called upon to make several saves that kept his team in contention.

Three draws in three matches put the West Africans on three points to finish second behind Spain, who edged 10-man Uruguay 1-0 at the Estadio Guadalajara.
Cabo Verde had opened the campaign on a promising note, earning a point off Spain after a courageous goalless draw in the first game.
They then played to a 2-all draw in the second duel with Uruguay.
Cabo Verde’s midfielder Deroy Duarte was named man of the match. Duarte, who features for Bulgarian first division entity Ludogorets Razgrad, was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, before he was naturalised by Cabo Verde.

Meanwhile, Spain confirmed their top status slot with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Uruguay.
Alex Baena scored the all-important goal in the 42nd minute. Uruguay finished the game a man down with a red card to Agustin Canobbio in stoppage time.
Baena earned the man of the match trophy.

Uruguay was consequently eliminated alongside Saudi Arabia.
