Egypt became the second African country to progress to the round of 16 stage at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A spirited 4-2 post match penalty victory over Australia at the Dallas stadium inspired Egypt to the well celebrated victory.

Normal time of this end-to-end game had ended 1-all with the additional 30 minutes failing to find a clear cut winner.

Emam Ashour gave Egypt the lead on 13 minutes with a brilliantly drilled header.

On the other end, Mohamed Hany headed past his own goalkeeper 10 minutes into the second half for the equalizer.

Egypt joins Morocco as the other African country at the round of 16. Morocco ejected Netherlands 3-2 in post match penalties after 1-all draw in 120 minutes of football.

The Pharaohs take on either Argentina or Cabo Verde at the round of 16 stage on July 7th in Atlanta.
