Uganda Premier League side Blacks Power FC have officially named CAF A licensed tactician Simon Peter Ssalongo Mugerwa as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 UPL campaign.

The former Police FC, Mbarara City, and Lugazi FC gaffer takes over the technical reins at the Lira-based club, tasked with establishing the Black Warriors as a formidable force in Uganda’s top-flight football league.

Mugerwa will collaborate directly with Michael Lukyamuzi “Skillz”, the coach who masterminded the team’s successful FUFA Big League campaign to secure automatic UPL promotion.

Lukyamuzi and the existing backroom technical staff will remain integral to the setup as the club transitions to top-tier football.

In a statement released on their official social platforms, the Black Warriors expressed high optimism for the road ahead.

“CAF A Coach Simon Peter Ssalongo Mugerwa is our new Head Coach heading into the 2026/27 UPL season! Coach Mugerwa will work alongside Coach Michael Lukyamuzi ‘Skillz’ and the entire technical team that guided the Black Warriors to UPL promotion. A new chapter. A bigger challenge,” the statement partly reads.

Mugerwa arrives with significant domestic credentials, renowned for his tactical organisation and structured defensive setups.

His appointment signals clear ambition from the Blacks Power management, who are determined to avoid a repeat of their previous single-season stint in the top division.

With the 2026/27 UPL season fast approaching, Mugerwa’s immediate priority will be integrating key transfer targets and building a competitive squad capable of holding its own against the country’s football heavyweights.
