NEC FC Head coach Kaddu Badru Mukasa praised his side’s clinical edge while delivering a stern reminder of the standards required for title success, following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Lugazi FC at Lugogo.
After a sluggish opening 45 minutes where the team struggled to find their rhythm against Lugazi’s setup, Mukasa’s men responded with a dominant second-half performance, converting key chances to seal all three points.
Speaking in his post-match address, the head coach expressed relief at the team’s efficiency in front of goal, though he made it clear that overall performance levels must rise.
“I am happy because the boys have taken away the chances that were created. We scored more goals and that is very good,” Mukasa said.
“We looked to be struggling in the first half with the style of play. However, in the second we found our rhythm, but we still expect much from the boys.”
Despite the two-goal margin, the head coach was quick to highlight defensive lapses. A defensive slip-up allowed Lugazi a route back into the match, an error Mukasa insists cannot become a habit for a team targeting silverware.
“This calls for an improvement from everyone. Winning a title is not easy, but we are up for the task. Conceding carelessly is unacceptable, but these are the challenges we go through.”
With the season still in its opening phases, Mukasa emphasized that building mental toughness and consistency across 90 minutes remains the top priority.
“As a team, we seek to perform better. It’s early days, but we ought to keep working so that we build a strong team with character,“ he added.
