Kitara Football Club takes a slim 2-1 lead going into the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup against Somali opposition Mogadishu City Council on Saturday, September 12 at the Hoima City Stadium.
The club president, Deo Kasozi, has acknowledged the support of the fans that thronged the Hoima City stadium from all corners of the country.
Addressing journalists at Grand Imperial Hotel, Kampala on Tuesday, 8th September 2026, Kasozi appreciated the fans’ support, calling for more support as he also appreciated the Government financial backing to the club.
“We applaud the fans who came to watch the first-leg game against Mogadishu City Council during our away game,” Kasozi hinted.
“This Saturday, as we host the return leg, I call upon more fans to come in big numbers as we target progress to the next round of the competition,” Kasozi added.
Kasozi noted that CAF allowed them 17,000 fans to access the stadium for the first leg, but they managed to sell 15,061 tickets in all categories (ordinary and VIP’s).
“This is the first time we are hosting a competitive CAF game in Uganda. Kitara Football Club is on track to qualify for the second. We expect good results. I am only asking for support for fans to come for the home game come this Saturday,” Kasozi remarked.
Kasozi also touched on circumstances that led to the delayed kick-off for the Sunday game (match delayed by 40 minutes).
“We had issues with bench permits for some of our coaches. This has since been solved. Coach Wasswa Bbosa will get a provisional license to sit on the bench for the game,” he said.
Appreciated Government funding:
Kasozi has applauded the Government of Uganda for the financial backing to the different clubs, in particular to his side.
“Any sort of money to football is much appreciated. We therefore thank the Government of Uganda for the financial support,” he appreciated.
Jimmy Kalema scored a brace for both Kitara’s goals to neutralize Akram Khamis Ilyaas’ opener.
The winner between Kitara and Mogadishu City Council will advance to the first round of the competition, awaiting Egypt’s Al Ahly Sports Club.
