Akahuri was over the weekend (Saturday, September 26) crowned champions of the Guinness-powered Kitunga League defeating Zone FC 3-0 in the Season 9 final at Inspire Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo District.
The annual competition brings together former students of Muntuyera High School Kitunga, the school community and football lovers in Rwashamaire.
The main event featured a semi-final showdown. Zone FC faced Kyasha in the semi-finals, while Kyimiranku played Akahuri, with Akahuri and Zone FC advancing to the final.
The victory gave Akahuri their first Kitunga League title after three seasons of trying. Captain Joash Ampumuza attributed the success to persistence, commitment and teamwork after the team also fell short last season.
Kitunga League Chairman Andrew Ntungomwe said the competition has grown over the years, bringing together former students now working in different professions and parts of the country.
Guinness continues to use the power of sport to bring communities together, and the ninth edition of the Kitunga League was a strong reflection of that spirit.

Beyond football, the league enables Muntuyera alumni to reconnect, maintain physical fitness, strengthen relationships and support their former school through development activities.
Hosted near the school at Inspire Africa Coffee Park, the final also gave Inspire Africa Coffee an opportunity to showcase its products while engaging alumni, players and the wider Rwashamaire community.
The event was supported by Guinness, Inspire Africa Coffee and NBS Sport, combining football, entertainment and alumni networking. Guinness, the tournament’s sponsor, helped bring fans and alumni together for the lively Matchday experience.
The celebrations highlighted the growing contribution of Muntuyera’s old boys to the school’s development.
Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament and guest speaker at the awards ceremony, Gerald Karuhanga Kafureka, cited rising student numbers as evidence of the school’s transformation.
He noted that Muntuyera had fallen to about 200 students in 2017 before growing to more than 1,300 in subsequent years, alongside increased alumni participation from 2018.
Karuhanga commended the old students for their continued support and linked their involvement to the institution’s progress.
