- Hoima City stadium, 7pm [EAT]
Uganda Cranes take on Libya in the second match of the Pamoja 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the first ever national team match at Hoima International stadium on Tuesday.
Both sides will be looking to make history at Hoima with the target being three points, the first in the campaign after drawing in their opening games of the campaign.
Uganda held giants Tunisia 1-1 in Rades while Libya rallied to draw 2-2 against Botswana after going 2-0 down until the 87th minute.
Speaking to the press, Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put said the target is to win the game and wants to build on the point away in Rades.
“The point and performance in Rades will count for nothing if we don’t perform well against Libya and also get a good result,” said Put who confirmed everyone of his players is fit although SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago was not cited in the last training session.
His counterpart Youssou Dabo wants his Libyan charges to build on the second half against Botswana but also wants history at Hoima.
“We are thankful for the warm reception so far received,” started Dabo. “We are here to play and win but we know it will be a tough game against a very good side that has been together for some time now,” he added.
“In the first game, our spirits in the second half is what I want us to carry here. Playing in the new stadium, we want to make history by winning the first game at Hoima.”
Meanwhile, Paul Put remained tightlipped on whether any of the new faces on the team will feature against Libya on Tuesday hinting that many could face DR Congo in the two international friendlies in South Africa.
