Reigning National Basketball League (NBL) champion and Finals MVP Martina Anyango has officially signed with American NCAA Division I side Texas Tech Lady Raiders for the upcoming 2026–27 college season.
The announcement was confirmed by Lady Raiders head coach Krista Gerlich, marking a major milestone in the 6-foot-4 Ugandan center’s blossoming career.
Anyango transitions to the United States following a dominant domestic campaign with the Mukono-based UCU Lady Canons, where she established herself as the top post player in East Africa.
Anyango was the centerpiece of UCU’s run to their ninth NBL title in 2026. She was named the league’s Playoffs Most Valuable Player after posting remarkable postseason averages of 16 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Anyango’s post season was littered with the NBL trophy and accolades such as NBL Best Center, Top Rebounder, NBL Best Five Selection and Most Valuable Player.
Throughout UCU’s championship run, Anyango delivered standout performances when it mattered most, including a 28-point, 16-rebound performance against the KCCA Leopards in the semifinals, and a 27-point, 11-rebound display in the series-clinching game.
In the finals series alone, she accumulated 70 points and 73 rebounds, capping off the victory with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double in the decisive game.
Beyond local competition, Anyango made international history with UCU. She anchored the squad that claimed a bronze medal at the 2025 FISU 3×3 Basketball World Cup, making the Lady Canons the first African university team to reach the semifinals and podium at the global showcase.
Joining a Rising NCAA Powerhouse
Anyango will join a Texas Tech program coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory.
Under coach Krista Gerlich, the Lady Raiders posted a 26-8 overall record (12-6 in the Big 12) last season, securing their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
Texas Tech kicks off its 2026–27 NCAA season on November 5 against Charlotte at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas, where Anyango will look to make an immediate impact on the collegiate stage.
