Muzamir Mutyaba is supposed to be the heart and soul of KCC. He is to dictate play, create goal scoring chances and carry the team forward in the middle.
Mutyaba was that kind of player for Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU), he put in man of the match performances for the side in the league and Uganda Cup last season.
He was a key figure when SCVU was lifting the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin Cup last year, winning five games out of six.
It’s because of his ability to carry the team on his shoulders that KCC signed him and manager Mike Mutebi handed him the number 10 shirt.
Having tested the waters at regional and continental level, Mutyaba was expected to be one of KCC’s star performers at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam.
Unfortunately he was a shadow of himself in the club’s opener against Azam as KCC lost the game 1-0. Mutyaba struggled because the entire team failed to come to the party.
Against Adama City today at the Karume artificial turf, Mutyaba’s fellow midfielders Joseph Ochaya, Michael Birungi, Tom Masiko and Hakim Senkumba or Ivan Ntenge will have to step up.
Yes, they can all play that game defining pass, but none of them has the aptitude to think for the team like Mutyaba.
None of them can know how and when to play that final ball for the striker better than Mutyaba.
By the way against Adama City, KCC have opponents who are comfortable on the ball and will frustrate them with their endless desire to keep the ball.
So Mutyaba and company need to triple their efforts if they are to match the Ethiopians who are also more familiar than KCC on the artificial turf.
