After a pathetic show against Guinea on November 19, 2014 in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, many Ugandans thought Andrew Mwesigwa would do the Nobel thing and retire from international football.
He is yet to officially step down, but looks like that the current structure of the national team doesn’t favor his return and he might be forced out for good.
This was revealed by Cranes head Micho Sredojević when was asked about the future of the player in his 30s.
We have four central defenders at the moment and I don’t want to kill the spirit of the team
Micho was referring to Richard Kasagga, Murushid Juuko, Shafik Bakaki and Isaac Isinde, the serbian later added before clarifying in the issue of the captaincy.
And trust me; it will be hard for anyone to come from outside and breakthrough. We have to wait and see what the future holds. And the Cranes captain is Geoffrey Massa not Mwesigwa.
Mwesigwa has been club-less since Kazakhstan outfit Ordabasy declined to give him a contract extension at the end of 2014.
He was tried at Premier Soccer Clubs, Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundwons but failed to impress, and he is believed to be in turkey and on the verge of completing a move there.
