Sport-S kept their hopes of finishing the regular season of the National Volleyball League without tasting defeat alive over the weekend.
The four time winners defeated Sky 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-20, 32-30) on Friday in a game the latter badly wanted to win to break into the top four positions on the 12 team log.
Sky then picked themselves up to defeat Nkumba Navy by the same margin (25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19) on Sunday to take their point tally to 23.
The biggest losers of the weekend were probably Nemostars, who lost their third game of the season to Nkumba in straight sets (25-21, 27-25, 28-26) in a game the Kololo based sides struggled to match their opponents.
Nemostars always had comfortable leads but gave them away with too much ease, bringing Nkumba into the game.
At one time in the second set the immediate for champions led 18-12 only to lose it 27-25 as Nkumba dominated matters on the attack, block and cover, areas Nemostars struggled to keep up despite having an edge on reception.
Sport-S holds on the table summit with 29 points, KAVC in second position on 25, both teams have played ten matches and will face-off on Friday in their last first round fixture.
Nemostars are third on 24 points just like Nkumba, but the former has a better point ratio, 1.1463 compared to Nkumba’s which is 1.1074. Sky is fifth on 23 with UCU Doves sixth on 20 points.
