Maroons Football Club prior to the 64th minute thought they had everything under control and looked likely to end their quest for the second league victory of the season but were dealt a serious blow when the 1st assistant referee Robert Makwali awarded the goal that seemed not to have crossed the line.
The goal came from a free kick taken by Male Nsereko whose ball was punched away by goalkeeper Jamil Maliyamungu but met Nicholas Kagaba’s header.
Defender Sylvester Okello headed the ball away before it crossed the line but to the spectators’ surprise, the assistant referee waved the flag for the goal.
This meant that Kagaba’s goal had cancelled Musa Ssali’s 1st minute goal that had given the visitors the lead .
Maroons started on a high note attacking the home side mercilessly and Patrick Kaddu should have doubled the advantage moments after the opener but saw his header go wide.
The hosts reacted through a counter attack that involved Date Wanok, Mustapha Kiragga and Nicholas Kagaba but were unfortunate when Wanok’s well taken shot hit the post.
The visitors dominated play and again Patrick Kaddu missed an opportunity to increase the lead when he failed to slot in a sitter that had come as a result of a free kick.
This is when the Victoria tactician thought it wise to make quick substitutions thus introducing Charles Semanda and Male Nsereko who had a hand in the leveller for Date Wanok and Mustapha Kiragga respectively in a space of 10 minutes.
The substitutes especially Nsereko completely changed the hosts’ approach to the game. Maroons’ midfielder Felix Akuyo got the game’s only yellow card in the latter stages of the game for a foul on Nicholas Kagaba .
Maroons made only two substitutions towards the end of the game . Raphael Winju who was playing his first game since returning back from injury made way for the youngest player in the league Pius Obuya as Moses Wasswa who was making his senior debut replaced goal scorer Musa Sali .
Meanwhile Mawa, the head coach SCVU was ordered to leave the technical bench by the referee of the day, David Oula for foul language on the officials.
The draw leaves Maroons bottom of the table with 9 points as SCVU stays stuck to 13th with only 3 points off the drop zone.
