Hosts Rwanda returns to action in the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) with a date against Gabon on Wednesday well aware that a win will see them seal a quarter final spot.
The Amavubi stunned giants Cote d’Ivoire on opening day with a 1-0 win thanks to Emery Bayisenge first half free kick and sit at the summit of Group A with three points.
Coach John McKinstry is expected to maintain a similar starting eleven that started against The Elephants although Faustin Usengimana may be recalled to partner Bayisenge at the heart of defence ahead of Abdul Rwatubyaye.
Team skipper, Jacques Tuyisenge is expected to lead the hunt for goals with Yannick Mukunzi shielding the back four whilst Jean Claude Iranzi who impressed in the first game doing the creative roles.
Gabon played to a barren draw in the first game against Morocco and will be eager to pick their first maximum points of the tournament.
Rwanda has never played at the quarter finals of this tournament and before victory against Cote d’Ivoire; they had never won a game at the championship. In the other group A game on the day, Morocco who drew goalless with Gabon in the first game take on Cote d’Ivoire.
