Kenya 15s Rugby team has resorted to Belgium or Russia, in request to play against any to improve their fortunes in the rankings and ensure qualification for the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

The Simbas had first lined up Germany but the country took long to reply hence opting for Belgium or Russia who are ranked 23rd and 19th respectively.

Oscar Mango, Kenya Rugby Union’s (KRU) director of elite squads and performance cited last year’s victories over Portugal (41-15) and Spain (36-27) that saw them move up three places from position 31 to 28, saying they needed more of the same.

“You saw what the team did last year, beating Spain and Portugal and and this shows that we can mix it up with the big boys,” he told The Star.

“The boys do deserve those opportunities and I hope either Belgium or Russia will play us.”

Kenya have already secured a Test match against Hong Kong on August 26 and could play Romania in October.
