City Oilers’ point guard Ben Komakech believes his side’s victory at the Zone V championship was down to preparations.
The Ling long sponsored side won their maiden regional title in Dar es Salaam after beating whoever crossed their way.
“The preparations were so good,” said Komakech when asked what made the difference. “I must say that we started preparing for this competition as early as January and it paid off,” he added.
The former Power player also revealed that the experience they had amassed from participating in the previous two competitions also played a big role.
“As a team, we have been growing and we had learnt a lot from previous outings. We were patient in our play and maintained our A game right from 1st to 4th quarter of every game.”
The triumph earned the Oilers a ticket to the Afro Basketball championship that will be held in Egypt in December and Komakech thinks they have the quality to upstage the continent’s best.
“It will be another challenge but one we are ready to take on. We want to show we can match the continent’s best and I believe we can go far in the tournament.”
