International Master Elijah Emojong has won the 2017 edition of the Cytonn Investments Open Chess Championships.

The two day event had 97 players contest in the Open section, and the Ugandan IM emerged champion with 6.5 points from a possible seven.

Emojong was headed for a perfect 7/7 but drew against Jacob Lusi Onditi in the final round.

The other four Ugandans missed out on the rewarding positions as none finished in the first five positions. Thomas Katairo lost his last round to James Madol Panchol as he settled for the eighth position with five points

Rodgers Ntambi also managed five points and ended the tourney placed 16th while Francis Obita [4points] and Patrick Akena [3.5points] came 42nd and 50th respectively.

Kenyans retained the money as locals Onditi, Madol, Gohil Mehul and Bryan Toboso Akhanyinya completed the top five.
