Bright Stars FC missed a number of clear cut goal scoring opportunities in their goal-less draw with Kirinya-Jinja S.S in the Uganda Premier League at the Champions Stadium, Mwererwe on Tuesday.
In a match played before a very small crowd, Bright Stars, coached by Uganda Cranes goalkeeping coach, Fred Kajoba looked the hungrier and more focused team on mission.
Joshua Kawadwa and Yubu Bogere were culprits of several chances that would have easily buried off the game.
The visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession in the opening half as Isaac Ntege combining well with Bashir Mutanda and George Ssenkaaba although finishing remained the grey area.
James Otim’s pace on the right wing troubled Bright Stars’ skipper Sula Ssebunza Ssekagya for long spells of the game.
In fact, Ssebunza was the only player booked in the entire game.
FIFA Referee Ali Sabilla waved off a penalty shout by the hosts with a clear hand ball call turned down.
The stalemate was Bright Stars’ 13th in 25 games as they remain 9th on 28 points from 25 games.
Kirinya-Jinja S.S drops to 14th (with 24 points) after BUL’s 2-1 victory against rivals JMC Hippos lifted them to 10th (26 points).
The relegation battle rages on with about 6 games to be played.
