Muzamiru ‘King Kong’ Kakande has been unanimously voted as the Uganda Special Press Association (USPA) sportsman for the month of June.

Kakande was voted at the sports body’s monthly convention on Monday held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The welterweight boxer  beat Clair Merven of Mauritius in the final of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) African Boxing Championships in Congo Brazzaville.

This was Uganda’s only gold medal at the championship.

Commendation:

Uganda She Cranes (Netball team) that won gold at the 6th African Netball championship as well as KCCA (Uganda Cup winners) were commended.

The other members of the Uganda boxing team,  David ‘The Dragon’ Ayiti (Super Heavy) and Geoffrey Kakeeto (Bantamweight) who won bronze were also commended.

Kakande will be crowned this Wednesday 5th July 2017 at Imperial Royale Hotel.

This will be the first of the three quarterly dinners where the winners of April (Robert Chemonges) and May (Andrew Ssenoga) will also receive their awards.

Meanwhile, the minor winners (U-18’s) during the 2016 sporting year will be crowned on Tuesday, 11th July 2017 at the same Hotel during a special luncheon.

This will be ahead of the Nile Special USPA gala on 14th July 2017.

The monthly assembly was also graced by the communications manager at FUFA, Ahmed Hussein who emphasized the need for members to adhere to the core ethics of journalism.
