Strikers were favorites to make the knock out stages out of a difficult group B but they’ve made life hard for themselves after losing to SKLPS and Avengers, teams they should have beaten.
Now they face an uphill challenge in making the quarterfinals as they have to beat both Kampala Pirates and Div 1 champions Aziz Damani this weekend.
Strikers were semifinalists last season and with the quality of talent they have in their side they should be in the knock out round.
Playing on a small Buddo ground they will have to bowl very well to tame the power hitters of Aziz Damani.
Damani is short of match practise after SKLPS and Mwiri were no shows for their games coupled with bad weather that washed out their game with Pirates last Sunday.
Damani has kept away its big guns Steve Tikolo and Benjamin Musoke in the group stages giving chance to its fringe players but as we approach the business end of the T20 league they might need both back immediately.
Div 3 Champions Kampala Pirates have flexed muscle with the big boys and lie third on the table in Group A.
They picked up the scalp of Tornado B which enhanced their chances of making the knock out stages and if they can defeat strikers on Sunday they will make the knock out stages.
Joshua Mwanja continues to have a stellar season with the bat for Pirates and he will be there go-to man. He scored a century in Buddo this season a ground that suits his batting style.
Strikers are 5th just outside the knock out positions with only the top 4 teams assured of making it to the next round.
They will be without Rogers Olipa and Innocent Mwebaze who are doing their UACE finals but in Frank Akankwasa, Derrick Bakunzi, Simon Oketcho and Perry Wazombe they still have enough quality to at least overcome either side.
