After suffering their second defeat of the campaign at Bright Stars, Onduparaka head back home wounded and ready to inflict damage on their visitors Kirinya-Jinja SSS on Saturday.
The 4-1 loss to champions KCCA aside, the Caterpillars have been relishing their second season in top flight, with four wins and as many draws keeping them within spitting distance of the top.
Leo Adraa’s men had not lost a game in six outings in what has been a fine start for them, but Bright Stars led by new boy and new captain Nelson Ssenkatuka put an end to that good run. Despite that loss though, the West Nile side is still adjacent to the top, and this could act as a motivating factor over the weekend.
The Green Light Stadium hasn’t really been intimidating this term, but the fans will anxiously be waiting for this match as victory could see Onduparaka assume the summit if the teams above them viz. SC Villa, Vipers, KCCA, Bright Stars and Police each fail to secure maximum points.
Visitors Kirinya-Jinja SSS have not been convincing of late. After two back to back losses, they needed a stoppage minute goal from former Paidha Black Angels forward Fred Amaku to return to winning ways in midweek against league debutants Mbarara City.
Last time out, Charles Ayeikho’s boys were beaten 1-0 at Police, however, the hosts should not expect an easy ride on Saturday. Kirinya-Jinja SSS have developed a reputation as a tough nut to crack and it has not gone unnoticed.
While the Students lost at the Green Light in this fixture last term, spoils were shared in the sides’ first meeting in UPL. Given Onduparaka haven’t lost a game at the Green Light since earning promotion to top flight, the visitors will be happy to return home with a point.
