International Master Elijah Emojong completed a dominant Tanzania Open Chess Championship with victory over native William Chibesa Kangwa in the final round of the championship to win the event with 6.5 points.

Emojong proved too much for his opposition including fellow countryman FM Haruna Nsubuga. The 25-year-old won all his games bar one against Githinji Hinga from Kenya that ended in a draw.

It was a not so strong field, with Nsubuga and Githinji the real challengers, but after a mediocre performance in the Uganda Open, winning this was the only way of burying that disappointment.

The IM was winning his second Tanzania Open title having triumphed in 2015.
Tanzania CM Yusuf Mdoe who put up an impressive display took second spot after beating Githinji in the final round, and Nsubuga completed the podium positions with his last round victory against Andersson Ragnar.
