The Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens team will be right up against 2010 Delhi silver medalist Australia, in their first Commonwealth Rugby Sevens encounter at the Ibrox Stadium, Scotland’s third-biggest and home of the legendary Rangers football club.

The Cranes will have play at their best to possibly upset Australia who are determined to finish top of pool D so that they can avoid defending Champions New Zealand and South Africa until the semi-final stage.

Cameron Clark who finished fifth on point scorers tally for the 2013/2014 season and Australia’s sole representative in the World Sevens Team of the Season, Skipper Ed Jenkins the most experienced, Liam Gill and flanker Sean McMahon will be the players to watch as Australia trace their way back to the Gold Medal match of the competition.

The last time Ugandans played against Australia in the same competition was four years ago in India, Delhi. Cranes were thrashed 33-0 before taking on England that also annihilated them 55-0. They were exactly in the same group as this one in Glasgow and only managed a comfortable 35-5 victory over Sri Lanka.

Phillip Pariyo, Emmanuel Ecodu, Kasiita, Phillip Wokorach and Michael Wokorach are in perfect shape to contend for top spot in Glasgow on Saturday, having all registered tries against Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly they won 30-15 last week.

Assistant Coach Yayiro Kasasa who has been putting the Ugandans through their paces believes his side can beat Australia since they hold no fear of their rivals.

“We can beat Australia,” Kasasa told The Sydney Morning Herald. “We have beaten France. Argentina, we squared them off, so its nothing so special.

“Anything can happen. We might be small, but our hearts are big.”
