2016 Danny Nkata Golf Memorial Tournament:

Winners: Charles Mubiru (Men) & Pamela Tumusiime (Women)

Charles Mubiru and Pamela Tumusiime won the 10th edition of the Danny Nkata Memorial Golf tournament organized at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday.

The tournament which has been held since 2006 is played annually in honour of the late Danny Nkata, who was one of the first black golfers in Uganda.

Nkata who died in the year 2004 aged 74 years was also the first FIFA Referee referee south of the Sahara.

Mubiru was replaced at the podium by Uganda Golf Cranes player Daniel Baguma, on holiday from South Africa where he traveled with Ronald Otile for studies.

Tumusiime was excited by the victory as he testified to Kawowo Sports.

It is a blessing to win and smile on the podium. Also, it is great to end the year with victory

The Nkata family was heavily represented by his daughters led by Suzan Mubiru Nkata and in-laws.

Our daddy was a great golfer and passionate at the game. He could do his last thing for golf. Greetings from our 89 year old mother Victoria Nkata who was unable to attend.

Nkata is famous for designing the current shape of Entebbe Golf Club transforming it from a 9 hole to an 18 hole facility.

In fact, in honour of his works, the Entebbe club management named hole number 18 after Nkata in an act of support for his efforts.

The hole is now called Danny Nkata Munyigwawabbiri. Nkata was one of the first Ugandans to play golf after the Kabaka of Buganda Sir. Daudi Chwa, later served as secretary of Uganda Golf Union (UGU).

Besides golf and football refereeing, he was also a keen Tennis player.
