Uganda Rugby Union building side for 2016 games

Uganda Rugby Union is building a side for the summer Olympics in 2016 when Rio de Janeiro hosts the games after the London games.

“We at the union are building a youthful side that will be capable of challenging for honours internationally and regional and we see this side as being formiable in 2016,” Yayiro Kasasa, the national 15’s coach said. “The Seven’s side that we have is a youthful one and we believe they will be well prepared and exposed by the time the Olympics are held in 2016 and that is our main target.”

Rugby will be included on the Olympics as a sport in 2016 according to the International Olympic Committee.

The Uganda’s 7’s side is just back from the Safaricom 7’s where they won the Shield by beating Rwanda 26-0 to return with silver ware.

According to Kasasa, the union has a long term plan and they want to implement them.
