Edwin Ekiring eyes Norwegian International

Africa’s number one badminton player Edwin Ekiring,has set his eyes on reach the finals at the Norwegian International that gets underway on Friday in Oslo.

“My focus is too do well in this tournament and I want to reach for the top,” Ekiring told Kawowo sports. “I must do well for me to hit my target of going to the Olympics.”

The Ugandan ace badminton player will start his quest with a first round game against Valeriy Atrashchenkov of Ukraine on Friday. Ekiring recently played in the Bitburger Open in Saarbrucken, Germany where he fell in the first round he will not afford another slip off as he seeks to break into the top 100 before next year’s Olympics in London.

Ekiring is ranked number 115 in the world. Meanwhile Uganda Badminton Association has received a 2.5 million sponsorship boost from Bank of Baroda for their East region badminton championship due on November 25-27 in Mbale. According to UBA its part of their talent identification programme that will see players battling for honours in U-13,U-19 and seniors in both men and women events and at the same time spread the game of badminton country-wide. The event will then move to Kampala from December 16-18.
