UAF toughens on drug cheats in MTN Kampala marathon

Local athletics body Uganda Athletics Federation has toughen on drug cheats ahead of the MTN Kampala marathon due this Sunday at Kololo airstrip.

“Athletes who fail doping tests after the marathon will have their results and awards cancelled after the respective races have ended,” Faustino Kiwa, organising secretary of the federation said. “The athletes will be tested after the race at a doping center at the marathon come that day however the results will not be instant as the dope samples will be sent to South Africa by DHL.”

Thirty six Kenyan athletes will battling for the 16 million for the winner other elite athletes will come from Ethiopia,Tanzania,Rwanda and Uganda.

World doping body Wada will send agents to test athletes after the race and they will do it randomly to the athletes in the race.

Uganda’s star athletes Dorcus Inzikuru will be defending her crown in the 21 kilometer race while Moses Ndiema Kipsiro will take part in the 10 kilometer race. UAF will use 800 volunteers and 300 marshalls for the biggest social sporting event on the Ugandan calendar while Uganda Red Cross will provide 18 ambulances for the marathon which is the ninth edition.
