Sam Simbwa steering Express F.C

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, no one gave Express a chance. Even the most staunch of “mukwano gwa bangi” fans never dreamt their club being on top of the table after 11 weeks. This was majorly attributted to administrative wrangles that locked the club in pre season. However, the Red eagles have disproved critics and are currently leading the table after 11 games with 23 points with a goal difference of +10. They are

the only team this season to win five consecutive games. Amazing! Kawowo sports analyses what has made Express F.C tick and how they reached the top of the Uganda Super League table.

SAM SSIMBWA: The out spoken coach has turned Express F.C from a mediocre side to title contenders. His player motivation is next to none and this might be the reason why his boys ‘die a little’ for him while on the pitch.

NO PRESSURE: Spending the off season in wrangles was a blessing in disguise as this relieved the boys the pressure of must win situations. The eagles enjoy themselves on the pitch and in the end, winning becomes easy.

THE SPIRITED FANS: The red army have been there for the team. Unlike other fans, this army sings from start to finish of the games. For instance, against SC Villa the fans sang their voices out. Songs like “Kali kayaye” and “Mpewo enfuwa” are always heard in the Kirussia stands. This makes players perform to please their lovely fans.

EXPERIENCED PLAYERS: Players like Jjuuko Yusuf, Luzige Edgar, Ssentongo Geofrey, Willy Kavulu and Willy Kavuma have loads of experience under their belts and they have so far had a wonderful season.

EMERGENCE OF BONNY BAIGANA. The diminutive midfielder is the revelation of the season. He is the club’s most important player with numerous assists and his goal against Villa will forever stay in the hearts of Express fans.
