FUBA Announces Changes in National League

Local Basketball governing body FUBA has revised the league format for the 2012 season. The new changes will cut across all the divisions. Division I, II & III (men) shall each have 12 teams while the women’s division has been divided into two divisions with Division I consisting of 8 teams and Division II shall have 6 teams (3 are new entrants and 3 dropped from last seasons only women’s league).

The increase in the number of teams in the men’s division has come along with the introduction of quarter final playoffs. “We want to create more competition and give other strong teams a

chance to play at the playoffs other than having four” said Ali Balunywa the federation’s marketing, media & publicity vice president.

The League is set to start on March 23 at YMCA and Lugogo and there will be face-off promotional games to make the 12 teams before the league gets underway. The promotional games will be between relagated teams in the higher division and losing semi finalists in a lower division.
