With the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) awards dinner around the corner, 20 year old, Justin Kimono has been tipped to edge other nominees in Andrew Olweny, Jonathan ‘Bishop’ Onen and Anthony Kinene to the 2011 MVP accolade.
Kimono, a utl Kobs’ player had incredible performances in last year’s league and not forgetting the limelight he got on donning the national team jersey. He was crowned best male rugby player last year by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) and the Makerere University student looks to have cemented his place both at club and national team.
Still last year, he picked a Young Achievers’ award in the sports category and if all goes well, he might remain up on top of Ugandan rugby. Though he recorded all these achievements last year, it was all in the shadow of Onen’s success in the Yellow machine camp.
Kimono has a lower experience compared to the other three vying for the ultimate prize. The awards will take place on March 21, 2012. In the women’s group, Asha Nakityo and Charlotte Mudoola, the national team captain will be looked at with keen eyes.
