Only fifteen years of existence and Nelson Mandela national stadium looks like some forgotten place of the 19th century. The stadium that can accommodate over ten disciplines has gone through transitions of management over the years. Yesterday was no different when state minister in charge of sports Hon Charles Bakabulindi named an eight man committee managing the stadium for the next three years.
Dan Tamwesigire who also doubles as the sports commissioner in Bakabulindi’s office will head the board deputised by Rosette Kebba. David Nkojjo, Mohamed Ssegonga, John Ssali Ssembuya, Cpt. Yonah Tumuramye, Lameck Omara Apita and Charles Egou are the board members.
“Your role is not a simple role but I want you to change Namboole into a place every one can appreciate,” the minister said after handing them their appointment letters.
Still in shock, new chair Tamwesigire couldn’t hide his excitement as he promised to work with his board to and improvement the facility. “One behalf of my team I promise we shall do our role, to make sure the place is different and deliver the services it was put in place for,” he said.
The Minister would love to see the board change the state of the hotel and stadium facility within one year. Namboole cost over US$36m (Ush90b) to put in place by the government of China. A managing director will also be put in place within two weeks depending on which names the board would have forwarded to the Minister
