
The Bamburi Rugby Super Series Kampala chapter is back with a bang with teams from Uganda and Kenya battling for a hefty 60 million in prize money at this prestigious 15’s tournament that is major event on the East African circuit.
Hima Cement who have been partners with the Uganda Rugby Union announced their sponsorship package at the official launch this morning at Sheraton Hotel. Speaking at the launch of the five week tournament on behalf of Hima Cement and Bamburi Cement, the Communications coordinator, Hima Cement Grace Nakolo said that the tournament’s structure has been well through and its positioning is very attractive since it’s now a recognized buildup to the national team squad.
The annual BRSS tournament will take place on the weekends from 5 May to June 2 in Kampala, Nairobi, Mumias, Mombasa and the finals shall be held in Nairobi’s RFUEA grounds.
Uganda’s two franchise teams, Rwenzori and Victoria based at Kampala Rugby Club and Kyadondo respectively will be playing against Kenya’s best who have been grouped into six franchises to compete in East Africa’s premier 15s aside rugby tournament. The Kenyan sides include defending champions, UAP Rhinos, SDV Cheetahs, Mumias Buffaloes, Bulls, Lions and Sharks.
Uganda’s teams Victoria will be handled by Brian Tabaruka while Rwenzori will be handled by Fred Mudoola. This year Uganda will be given the opportunity of hosting a semi-final game hoping that a Uganda side will reach that stage. SuperSport will be showing the games live.
