National federations appeal to UOC for Extra Ordinary General Assembly

13 of the 19 Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) member associations have petitioned the UOC executive to convene an Extra General Assembly before the end of next month. The Executive currently led by 1st vice president William Blick is to convene today and discuss issues raised by the national associations. “We agreed early this year in the UOC AGM that we will have an extra assembly. So if national

Federation petitions us we have to look into their matter as UOC executive,” Blick said.

Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Football, Handball, Hockey, Lawn tennis, Rugby, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Volleyball are the associations that petitioned UOC. The federations proposed four items on the agenda to be discussed;

– recent media revelations regarding the management and operations of UOC.

– Report of the Executive Committee on the allegations leveled against the secretary general Peninah Kabenge by Gabriel Oluka.

– Uganda’s participation in the London 2012 summer Olympic Games,

– consideration of the proposed amendments to the UOC constitution.

Meanwhile, UOC suspended President Roger Ddungu yesterday evening failed to turn for the Meeting with National Council of Sports (NCS). Ddungu had been summoned to clear the air that NCS and Governments are the one responsible for the wrangles in befalling amateur boxing in Uganda.

“He didn’t appear and failed to send an apology but NCS are going to write him a letter to show our dissatisfaction for not honoring our invite,” NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa told kawowo sports.
