Mountain Dew announced a new shs500m two-year sponsorship package to Uganda Motocross Club (UMC) at a press conference held at Quality Cuts Hill in Nsambya yesterday. Speaking to Kawowo Sports at the unveiling, UMC chairman, Stephan Duyck expressed his enchantment on the new deal that is certain to entice new fans and riders to the sport.
“This deal will take motocross in Uganda to bigger levels.” The new-fangled agreement has also changed the formerly Motocross race track, Garuga to Mountain Dew Extreme Sports Park where wall climbing, powerisor and video games challenges will be presented. A cash prize of shs8m has also been introduced at each of the five national championships for five categories (50cc, 85cc, 65cc, MX1 and MX2).
Mountain Dew brand manager, Timothy Luzinda believes the new deal will attract the youth to this developing sport. UMC is continuing to foyer the government to remove taxes from all motocross race gear that is being brought to the country so as to inspire more people join the sport. Mountain Dew has been the leading National Motocross Championships’ supporter for the past three years.
