The Uganda Super League Ltd is set to award this season’s best in the inaugural super league awards to be held on June 29 2012 at Serena Hotel in Kampala. According to the USL Head of communications, Mr. James Raymond Sekandi, this is intended to reward people who have stood put this season and perhaps motivate them for the season ahead. ‘’The event is set to be glamorous and the first of its kind in Ugandan football’’, said Ssekandi. Most of the awards have been named after Uganda’s greatest soccer stars and they are:
1. Bell team of the year (USL BEST XI 2011/12 SEASON)
2. Magid Musisi Award – Golden boot winner of the Year ( Top scorer )
3. Phillip Omondi Award – Best player of the season
4. Paul Hasule Award – Best defender of the season
5. Mike Kiganda/ Steven Bogere Award – Best midfielder of the season
6. Joseph Massajjage award – Best goal keeper of the season
7. Jimmy Kirunda Award – Fair play
8. Jackson Mayanja Award – Best upcoming / young player of the year
9. Polly Ouma / Peter Okee award – Coach of the season
10. Honorary award – Some one outside football that has done a lot for sport
11. Fans award- Goes to the best fans of the season
12. Longest serving player in the league
13. Best goal of the season
14. Life time achievement award
According to the USL, selected persons from the media that have exhaustively covered the league this season will submit their nominees in each category. The Coaches will also be requested to nominate the players in each category. At the end of it all, an independent body will have to sit and come up with the final lists from which the best will be chosen come, June 29th. The fans will also have a chance to vote in determination of the best after the final lists have been drawn. As usual, Kawowo sports will keep you posted on whatever developments occur.
