Express FC chances of lifting the league title for the first time since 1996 this season suffered a blow after falling to rivals KCC FC 2-0 in a league match played at Namboole this evening. A goal in each half by Masiko Tom and Eddie Mubiru condemned Sam Ssimbwas’s side to a loss.
Masiko Tom netted from a header in the 28th minute off a Yusuf Jjuuko free kick after Yayo Lutimba was judged to have blocked Michael Birungi. Express FC then threatened for an immediate equalizer but Erias Ssekismbu’s goal in the 30th minute was ruled out for offside. The game ended 1-0 after the first half.
After recess, the Wankulukuku based side tried to look for an equalizer but carelessly lost possession in the third half. They were made to pay for that later as substitute Eddie Mubiru who had come on for Brian Majwega scored a contender for the goal of the season in the 79th minute. The forward received a pass from left back Joseph Ocaya on the left wing and beat Musa Mukasa before unleashing a shot that hit the back of the net to leave Express custodian Jamal Salim in awe. Mubiru dummied him into crossing into the area before going for goal himself. It was game over at the time as KCC FC bossed the remaining minutes with Express players chasing shadows.
The win lifts Morley Byekwaso’s side to 5th on the 16 team log on 41 points while Express remain third on 44 points a massive six points behind leaders URA FC who won their game against Hoima-Busia 1-0. The Red eagles however have a game in hand.
