SC Villa president Fred Muwema is optimistic the club is on a steady path to restoring the glorious days despite word doing rounds that the club is in turmoil. While appearing on CBS FM on a sports show dubbed ‘Akaati K’emizanyo’.
The lawyer said that he is un bothered by what people think and is concetrating on building a strong foundation for the club so that even future administrators at the club can start from where he ended.
Muwema said, “There are lots of achievements attained during my tenure. The club has got a well furnished office, player salaries come in time and through their bank accounts, we have instituted a good technical team, we recently got a bus to cater for our transport, we are the only club in Uganda with registered fans and cards, we started a fans finance trust, the first club to do so in Uganda and planning to build our own home ground where we can host games”.
Mr. Muwema went on to thank the Villa fans that have continously supported the club by watching games boasting that no club enjoys fans support in the league than Villa. “I thank our fans who pay to watch our games in numbers. We get the highest revenue from gate collections and it’s the reason every club wants to play Villa”, he added.
On Coach Mike Mutebi who the fans blame for the team’s poor performance because of his tactics, shouting at players and abusing them, and being selective, the soft spoken lawyer said: “Am not technical but going by statistics, i think am right to say Mike has done well. Before we signed Mike Mutebi, Villa had played 9 league games, won once, lost twice and drawn six times and scored only 4 goals. Under him, we have played 18 games, won 9, drawn 4 and lost 5 times. How can you say he is bad!”.
” I don’t want to make another mistake like i did before when i instructed Zivo to change his system of play because am not technical”. On beefing up the squad, the Villa chairman said the club will no longer be going for big name players in the transfers citing that such players are normally after money with out club values.
“Next season is the last to go to the market. We want to build a squad that understands the values and norms of the club. We spent more than 80 million on players in pre season but what happened. The team has only improved with the unknowns – Acema, Musamali, Kasadha, Misi and the like. The only big name players at the club are Bengo, Ndaula, Muganga, Noah and may be Kirabira and Muleme. The rest are up coming”.
On when the Villa fraternity should expect the fruits, “I think we shall be back to where we belong in the next three years. With a squad that understands the club values, am sure we shall restore the glory days. It’s the reason we acquired Bengo and Muganga”, he concluded.
