FUBA Unveils Airtel and three others as league sponsors

This morning Airtel National Basketball League was unveiled as FUBA signed a one year deal with the telecommunication company to sponsor the league for one year. The deal also has Rwenzori Bottling Company, Castle Lite and Daily Monitor as partners.  The new deal will only accommodate the Men’s division one and the Women’s league, each consisting of 12 teams.
Each of the12 teams will get two sets of jerseys, five balls and goodies from sponsors as FUBA tries to also look for partners to come on board for the Men’s second and third divisions whose total is 41 teams.
The league under its new title will be launched this Friday with fans getting Airtel airtime worth Shs 2,000 for every ticket that will be bought.  Defending Champions, D-mark Power and Warriors will be the sides to in action.
Kawowo Sports couldn’t get to know how much Airtel was willing to sink into this season after the company’s managing Director VG Somasekhar refused to reveal. “We are making a large enough contribution to take this game to the next level,” he said. The year-long partnership heralds a new era after eight years with MTN, another telecommunications company, as the main sponsors.
FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya pledged that his federation will be using this platform to push the league to a professional level. “Through such partnerships we will be able to open avenues for players. As a federation we believe to have a fully professionals league in the next five years,” Tashobya said.
