Following yesterday’s bell super league results that saw URA FC beat Maroons FC by a solitary strike and Express FC share spoils with Bunamwaya SC in a 1-1 draw, it’s now clear that the 2011/12 league title can only be won by either Express FC, URA FC or Bunamwaya SC.
The former two sides are level on 51 points but the defending champions
sit at the top of the table on goal difference with +18 goals as compared to Express FC’s +17. Third placed Bunamwaya is also still in the equation since they are just a point adrift of the top two on 50 points with a game left to play.
The drastic change in the league table follows the decision by Uganda Super League board to expel Fire Masters from the country’s top division for failure to honour three of their fixtures without a satisfying reason. This means that teams lose points earned against Fire Masters with URA FC losing six, Bunamwaya SC four and Express FC three. With only a game left, the title deciding ties see Express FC entertain Bidco FC and Bunamwaya SC playing URA FC.
According USL Head of Communication Ssekandi James, the two matches are to be played at Namboole on Sunday and will be shown live on SS9 East with Express FC Vs Bidco FC kicking off first at 4.00pm before Bunamwaya SC Vs URA FC play later at 6.00pm. This is something i strongly refute in my opinion given the sensitivity of the two ties. I suggest these two should be played at the same time, same day and on different pitches to avoid match fixing and any form of foul play.
Why? The reasons are simple, precise and concise:
– URA FC Vs Bunamwaya SC late kick off means the two sides will have prior knowledge of what to play for after knowing the Express FC – Bidco FC result. This puts Express FC at a disadvantage.
– In case Express FC win their game, URA FC will have prior knowlege of how many goals they need to put past Bunamwaya SC to surpass the red eagles.
– In turn, it’ll mean that Edward Golola’s side has no chance at all and can therefore use less effort against URA FC killing the competitiveness of the tie.
– The late kick off can only hold enough water if Express FC fails to beat Bidco FC something you can’t guarante.
To avoid any conspiracy theories ahead of the two games, the two ties must be played on the same day and time. In my opinion, in the interest of showing the champions being given the crown live on T.V since it’s the only reason that USL forwards to support the two games being relayed live, i suggest one of the two games should be played on the Namboole out side pitch with the other in the main stadium with both games kicking off at the same time. I know this suggestion may be disregarded citing the standard of the out side pitch but so many league games have been played there before.
