The latest FIFA rankings released this morning by the world soccer governing body have put an icing on the cake for a successful month of June for Uganda. The East African nation moved nine places to 85th in the World and are 20th in the continent. This follows an away draw against Angola who are 86th in the World and 21st in Africa. The month of June also saw the Uganda Cranes battle out for a 1-1 draw with West African giants, Senegal
before thrashing Congo Brazzaville 4-0 in a memorable match at Namboole.
This will come as a confidence boost for Ugandans as they await the CAF draw to determine who will be the opponents in the final phase of the AFCON 2013 qualifications. Uganda is the only CECAFA team that made it to this qualification stage after neighbouring countries crashed out. Kenya dropped 14 placs to 125th in the world and lie 37th in Africa. The other neighbouring country, Tanzania moved 12 places to 127th in the world and 39th in Africa. Rwanda however dropped six places to joint 125th in the World with Kenya and 38th in Africa. Spain still top the World with 1691 points followed by Germany, Uruguay, England and Portugal.
