In a space of four days, Simon Ayeko will leave to remember July 5-8 as wasted. Just after failing to meet the London Olympics qualifying time of 8:23.10 at the Liege Meet in Belgium on Thursday, 3000m steeplechase athlete Simon Ayeko took a flight to Barcelona, Spain for a better shot at his goal. He did even better on Sunday night, finished second after clocking 8:23.62 at the Spanish Olympics trials.
It was his new personal best but was still not enough to guarantee him a place at the games due July 27- August 12. Ayeko, who hoped to become the third athlete to qualify for the event said he had put up his best but it was not worthy a London slot. Benin bronze winner and Jacob Araptany have already made it to the water jump race in the summer.
