IBV FC 2(2) -1(2) St. Patrick. Uganda Cranes internationals Abel Dhaira and Tony Mawejje’s hopes of reaching the group phase of this year’s Europa league have vanished after their IBV FC side was knocked out of competition on away goals rule.
Despite helping the side to a 2-1 win over Ireland’s St. Patrick in a game played last night, IBV FC crashed out on away goals rule having lost the first leg 1-0 at Richmonds Park a week ago. Matt Nicholas Garner’s 84th minute strike meant the
game had to end in extra time after the 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Dhaira and Mawejje were instrumental in maintaining a clean sheet and hoped lady luck had even smiled their way when substitute striker Eythor Helgi Birigisson who had come on for Ian Jeff in the 65th minute doubled the hosts’ lead in the 98th minute.
However, it only took a minute for the visitors to draw level when Stephen O. F’lynn breached Dhaira’s goal. Efforts to add to the goals were futile as St. Patrick’s defence stood resilient.
The Irish side play Bosnian side Siroki Brijeg in the second round in a two legged tie. former Cranes international Livingstone Mbabazi once played at St. Patrick before retiring.
